DUNCAN — The Duncan freshman boys’ team advanced to the finals of the Pauls Valley Tournament with a 44-31 win over Lindsay Thursday night. The Demons opened up a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they improved to 5-0 on the season. The Demons were slated to play Ada on Saturday for the championship.
Jarod Griffin led the team in scoring with 14 points, getting help from Michael Buben and Ryan Cox who each scored eight points. Daniel McCoy scored six points with Jordan Laskey and Ray Ray Stevenson each tacking on four.
The Demons opened the tournament with a 63-48 win over Ardmore. Duncan turned in an outstanding defensive effort in the first quarter, holding the Tigers to three points.
Griffin had an outstanding night offensively with 35 points, backed by 15 points from Cox and seven points from Buben. McCoy accounted for six.
“Ardmore started fouling us with three minutes left in the fourth quarter and our guys stepped it up and made 12 of 14 free throws to seal the victory,” Duncan head coach Matt Terry said.
The win moved Duncan into a game against Purcell that it won 46-25. Griffin led the team in scoring with 18 points and Cox tacked on 16. McCoy finished the game with five points and Buben had four. Dylan Gilbert and Laskey each added two points in the win.
