DUNCAN — The Duncan Lady Demon swim team continued its early run of success and the Demons qualified another swimmer for state Tuesday afternoon in a meet against Lawton’s finest.
Austin Bowles joined two relays and Levi Huff as state qualifiers by qualifying in the 100-meter breast stroke. In team scoring, the Duncan girls rang up 399 points to easily outdistance second-place Lawton MacArthur, which had 284. The boys took second, narrowly falling to MacArthur 287 to 257. Lawton Ike came in a close third with 256 points.
The win for the Duncan girls was their fourth in as many meets. The relays continued to play a large part in their success. The 200-meter medley relay team of Briana Fetterly, Jennifer Smith, Rachel Funkhouser and Ajenda Johnson placed first with a time of 2:57.02. The B team of Renea Plumlee, Noel Delozier, Rachelle Justus and Christa Anderson placed third.
In the 200-meter free relay, the team of Kylah Cauthon, Caylin Lynch, Smith and Plumlee finished second overall and the B team of Brittany Zawicki, Jessica Doan, Delozier and Fetterly took fourth. Duncan rebounded in the 400-meter free relay, capturing the top two placings. Johnson, Lynch, Plumlee and Funkhouser finished first in a time of 5:20.28, with Zawicki, Cauthon, Justus and Anderson taking second.
The Lady Demons also enjoyed success in the individual events with several solid showings. Lynch placed third in the 200-meter freestyle and Anderson was sixth. In the 200-meter intermediate, Smith came in second, clipping third-place Delozier by seven seconds.
Johnson turned in a first-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle, winning in a time of :32. Funkhouser was third and Cauthon was fourth. Also placing for Duncan was Zawicki in sixth place, Fetterly in eighth place, Doan in 11th place, Allison Mahoney in 12th place and Kaitlyn Loafman in 13th place.
Justus picked up another first place for Duncan in the 100-meter fly, turning in a time of 1:44.28. In the 100-meter freestyle, Zawicki took second place, with her teammates taking the next three placings. Lynch finished second and was followed by Plumlee and Cauthon. Anderson was ninth.
Johnson picked up her second first-place finish, taking the 400-meter freestyle in 5:25.66. Jacklynn Power was third. Smith took second in the 100-meter freestyle, followed by Fetterly in third place. Doan took fifth in the event. Funkhouser won the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 1:33.44. Delozier was third, with Justus and Mahoney taking sixth and seventh.
On the boys’ side, the Demons’ team of Huff, Bowles, Bryce Sepulvado and Aaron Nichols finished fourth in the 200-meter medley relay. Sepulvado, Clayton Lee, Vincent Sabredo and Andy Stewart were fourth in the 200-meter relay. In the 400-meter freestyle relay, Lee, Nichols, Bowles and Huff were third while Sabreda, Andy Stewart, Spencer Pearson and Daxton Holland were fifth.
Lee took second in the 200-meter freestyle and Nichols came in third. Stewart also placed in the event, taking eighth. Bowles took fourth in the 200-meter intermediate.
Sabreda took seventh for the Demons in the 50-meter freestyle and Pearson took eighth. Nichols was 11th in the event and Shircliff was 12th.
Huff finished third in the 100-meter fly and Sepulvado was sixth. Lee had a strong showing in the 100-meter freestyle, taking second place. Steward was fifth with Shircliff and Nichols coming in seventh, and eighth. Nichols also took second in the 400-meter freestyle. Sabreda was fifth in the 100-meter backstroke.
Bowles qualified for the state meet in the breaststroke in a time of 1:19.63, placing first in the event. Huff was third and Sepulvado was fifth. Pearson also placed for Duncan, taking seventh.
