Marlow girls cross country finishes fifth at Edmond meet

Looking to get a leg up on competition at the state meet, the Marlow girls’ cross country team competed in Edmond this past week and finished fifth in a pre-state meet.

The team was led by Kelly Davis, who finished the course in 13:23 to finish 17th overall. Chelbe Deaton turned in the second best time for the Lady Outlaws, crossing the line at 13:41. As a team, Marlow finished with 188 points. Seminole won the event with 61 points and Madill was second, turning in a total of 88. Jay was third and Vinita was fourth in the 17-team event.

“We had a good meet,” Marlow coach Michelle Berryman said. “We ran on the state course so the girls will be familiar with it before the state meet.

“We had all of our main competition there from our class. It was good for us to scout our competition, because we are not aware of how strong the other teams are. If the girls work hard these next couple of weeks and gear up mentally, we might pull up in the ranks.”

Lacey Fields and Katie Fikes finished neck-and-neck. Fields finished the course in 14:18 with Fikes crossing in 14:19 to finish at 50th and 51st, respectively.

Madison Parsons was 68th, turning in a time of 14:45, and Tsaundra Kautzman was 73rd, finishing the course in 14:56. Heather Smith was 89th with a time of 15:44.
