Duncan whitewashes Lawton Ike

Dines strikes out 12 to lead Lady Demons in win

Lawton, OK — LAWTON — The Duncan softball team turned in some solid prep work for the East-West Shootout with a 4-0 win over Lawton Ike on Thursday night.

Judy Dines threw a four-hitter to pick up the win and improve to 14-4 on the season. The senior struck out 12 and did not allow a free pass. As a team, the Lady Demons finished with seven hits.

“We played really well,” Duncan coach Robert Cowan said. “We made one error in the first inning and then did not make another.”

Duncan took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Sadie Conran singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Kinzie Kennedy. A single by Caylin Lynch plated Conran from second.

“That was how you are supposed to play softball,” Cowan said.

The Lady Demons would also add runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh. The run in the sixth came on an inside-the-park home run by Lynch. The senior had two hits on the day, with two RBIs.

Allison Edwards also had two hits in the game. Finishing with one hit were Sarah Harper, Madison Pewitt and Mackenzie Gibbs. Gibbs also finished with an RBI.

The Lady Demons will be back in action today in Tulsa at the East-West Shootout. Duncan will open against Coweta at 2:30 p.m. and will also play Bishop Kelley at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Duncan will wrap up play in the festival when it faces off against Collinsville at 1:30 p.m.

The festival will serve as a prelude to the regional tournament, set for Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lady Demons will open against Tuesday at noon against Western Heights. Chickasha will play Noble at 2 p.m. with the losers of the two games to play at 4 p.m. The winners will play at 6 p.m. in the double-elimination format.

The tournament will continue on Wednesday when a regional champ will be crowned.
