DUNCAN — With a district championship in the pocket, the Comanche softball team is not taking time to rest on its laurels.
Monday night, the Lady Indians were back in action against highly touted Healdton. And, for the second time in as many meetings, it was Comanche that came out on top. Nicole Martin scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to give the Lady Indians a 3-2 win.
Comanche threw all three of its pitchers in the game with Kenzie Reed getting the start. Reed gave up one run in first inning and gave way to Tanya Whaley, who threw two scoreless inning. Shayna Milam took the reins for the final three innings and gave up a run to the Lady Bulldogs in the fifth, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Comanche struck back in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to tie the game. A Jacobi Clark sacrifice fly scored Mica Allen to account for one of the runs.
The Lady Indians took advantage of some shaky Healdton fielding in the seventh inning to pick up the win. Martin reached on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Taylor. Milam reached on an error and Allen drew a walk with two outs to load the bases. A game-winning hit was not necessary as Martin would score on the wild pitch.
Comanche improved to 24-11 with the win and will be back in action today when it hosts Central High at 4:30 p.m.
