The Duncan Chamber of Commerce has introduced a new program, Ambassador Honoree, in its own organization and to kick it off, they chose Billie Price as its first honoree.
Price, who owns Price Insurance Agency, happens to be the chairman for the Ambassador program.
Some may ask, what does an Ambassador do?
For Price it means connecting with other business owners, networking in the community, and helping new business owners become comfortable in the Chamber.
Price joined the Chamber right after she opened her business five years ago and that’s when she met other Ambassadors.
“At my ribbon cutting, I was surprised at everyone coming up to support me and telling me they wanted me to be successful.
“It made me want to be an ambassador,” she said.
Before Price began a career in insurance, she was a catering manager. Then in 2000, she went to work as an office manager for an insurance agency and through the Farmer’s Insurance company, she found the encouragement and help to start out on her own.
“I just felt like I could do it,” Price said.
She said the networking has provided many opportunities.
“We go to ribbon cuttings and are basically there to support Chamber business.”
It’s also helped her venture into other civic involvement. She’s a member of the 3D Drug Task Force Coalition and 3D Youth program.
Much of that is because she has two children, Stephens, who is in eighth-grade, and Kaylee, a senior. Both are active in sports and school.
“3D teenagers take a stand against drugs and alcohol, and try to be positive role models as peers. It’s something good for the community, a really good program,” she said. As a mother and resident, she’s proud to be associated with these programs.
Price stays busy in her spare time reading, scrapbooking, when she has time, she said, and is a dedicated runner.
“I run every morning,” she said. The family is active in Fair Baptist Church.
