Labyer to remain at Duncan Public School District for 2013

DUNCAN — Duncan Public Schools won’t see a change in its top administration any time soon.

During Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Duncan Board of Education approved rehiring Superintendent Sherry Labyer and took action to approve her employment contract for a year.

“Thank you all very much for the support and the vote of confidence,” Labyer said.

Labyer’s contract and position goes before the school board once a year. With the exception of Lisa Presgrove, who was absent from the meeting, the board voted unanimously to approve Labyer and her contract.

The contract Labyer was approved for as the same contract as last year. Labyer’s contract was approved at a rate of 2.60.

For the 2012-13 school year, Labyer’s base salary is $120,640. She also receives compensation for items including temp salary for $1,411, fringe dental insurance with co-pay for $369, fringe health and accident insurance with co-pay for $5,481, fringe life insurance with co-pay for $80, fringe vision insurance with co-pay for $106 and fringe retirement with co-pay for $8,117.

Labyer was rehired following a 25-minute executive session. That executive session was also used to discuss other employment items including three resignations and the hiring of four employees.

The board also entered into an executive session to discuss Labyer’s contract toward the end of the Dec. 11 regular meeting.

Those employee resignations accepted following the executive session included Tiffany Wright, Plato teacher with 1 1/2 years of service; Charles Redden, bus driver with 4 1/2 years of service; and Greg Justus, assistant maintenance supervisor with two years of service.

Employees hired following Tuesday’s executive session were Colby Snider as the varsity baseball coach through contract services, Rachael Dressler as a Woodrow Wilson teacher assistant on a support employee contract, Jenny Shipman as a Plato fifth-grade teacher on a temporary contract and pending background check, and Cameron Etheridge as an athletics groundskeeper on a support employee contract.

Shipman did attend the meeting, and Plato Principal John Millirons introduced her to the school board. Shipman did leave the meeting during the executive session.
