School board hires 40

DUNCAN — The number 40 brings several things to mind, usually involving age. But for Duncan Public Schools, the number represents the number of teachers and support staff hired or rehired during Tuesday’s meeting.

During the meeting, the Duncan Board of Education approved hiring the support staff and teachers for the 2010-11 school year. Superintendent Sherry Labyer made the recommendation to approve the contracts. This recommendation followed an hour and 20 minute executive session

Board President Chris Deal told the faculty and staff about how excited the board was to see the them coming to the school district.

“Congratulations to you all,” Deal said.

The teachers hired on temporary contracts include Don Hoyt as speech pathologist, Brenda Massie as early childhood special education teacher, Brandy Peters as Emerson teacher, Mikah Foraker as Emerson teacher, Marcus Williams as Emerson teacher, Brent Clark as Duncan High School ACE Remediation teacher, Aaron Minor as Will Rogers physical education teacher, Christie Young as Horace Mann teacher, Dawn Carman as Mark Twain teacher, Abby Leonard as Mark Twain teacher, Angelia Smith as Mark Twain teacher, Dawn Travis as Horace Mann special education teacher, Shalyn Buben as Duncan Middle School teacher, Kim Mays as DMS teacher, John Strickland as DMS teacher, Jamie Allen as DMS teacher, Mandy Robbins as DMS special education teacher, Sara Herrington as DMS teacher, Justin Smith as Woodrow Wilson teacher, Candesse Minor as Woodrow Wilson teacher, Shelly Polk as Woodrow Wilson teacher, DeLydia Gay as Woodrow Wilson teacher, Brandi Jones as Woodrow Wilson teacher, Linda Stapp as Woodrow Wilson teacher, Rachel Terry as DMS teacher.

Those hired on support contracts included Jim Moore as groundskeeper, Jan Shepherd as custodian, Linda Franks at Irving Pre-Kindergarten, Tina Nelson as Emerson financial clerk, Lisa Grissom as Woodrow Wilson cafeteria truck driver and helper, Lori Brewer as Horace Mann cafeteria cashier and helper, Pat Hall as Plato cafeteria cashier and helper, Beverly McEntire as Emerson cafeteria server and helper, Joe Allen as special education paraprofessional, Tom Gattis as bus driver, Elizabeth Jodie Nunn as standby bus driver, Betty Harris as bus monitor, Dieu Thuy Nguyen as licensed practical nurse.

Two other contracts done through contract services included Erin Jimenez as DHS color guard instructor and Jack Frances as DHS percussion instructor.

“We appreciate your dedication to education,” Deal said.
