DUNCAN — The Red River Technology Center Board of Education held a brief meeting Feb. 2 in the RRTC conference room.
According to RRTC Superintendent Ken Layn after approving the normal board agenda items, the board proposed and approved the appropriation change of moving $100,000 form function 4700 (building improvement fund) to function 7200 (Pell Grants).
“Because we have had so many adult students come in who have qualified for the Pell grants we have had to move some of the funds around to accommodate everything.”
Also during the meeting, Adult & Career Development Coordinator Anita Hasenmyer was approved for out of state travel to attend the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) meeting in Chicago, Ill.
“Anita is the head of the Head Start program,” Layn said. “All representatives are required to attend the SPARC meeting in Chicago.”
The board also approved the Halliburton Consulting Services agreement with it being contingent upon the school attorney’s approval.
According to Layn approving the agreement is just something that had to be done to renew the contract.
“We have been doing out of state training for Halliburton for a while now,” Layn said. “By approving this service agreement we are just renewing the contract.”
The final item on the agenda was the re-employment of Principal Dennis Loafman for the fiscal year of 2011.
Layn said that Loafman will be beginning his third year as principal at RRTC and said that he has been pleased with the job the he has done so far.
“Dennis has done a great job for Red River Technology Center so far and I believe that he will continue to do a good job for us in the future,” Layn said. “I appreciate all that he has done for Red River Technology Center and I believe the board appreciates what he has done as well.”
During the meeting, the board also discussed the annual Advisory Committee Banquet, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 30.
Layn said that the banquet has been a great event and has been very well attended in the past.
“This is the event that a lot of people look forward to each year,” Layn said. “It has been very well attended and usually gets around 150 people to attend each year.”
