Area schools set for graduation ceremonies

DUNCAN — The culmination of 13 years of studies will pay off for area seniors as they prepare for graduation.

It will take a little more than a week for all the graduating seniors to receive their diplomas. Three days have been set aside for these ceremonies.

Marlow High School seniors are set to graduate first this year. The program is set for 7 p.m. May 11. As usual, the ceremony will take place at the MHS gym on Ninth Street.

“We’re excited,” MHS Principal Bryan Brantley said. “No one’s as excited as the kids.

“Most of our students are going to college,” he added. “Several of the kids already know where they’re going to go, know what they’re going to do.”

MHS is the only school graduating that night. On May 17, Duncan and Velma-Alma high schools will share the day for their commencement ceremonies.

Duncan High School’s program is set for 8 p.m. May 17 at Halliburton Stadium. In case of rain, the DHS seniors will graduate from the school’s auditorium.

Velma-Alma High School’s graduation will take place at 8 p.m. May 17 in the JM Cary Field House.

On May 18, four high schools will graduate their seniors.

The seniors at Central High will lead the May 18 graduations. Their ceremony will be at 7 p.m. in the school’s gym.

The next group set to graduate are the Comanche High School seniors. The CHS seniors will graduate at 7:30 p.m. May 18 at the football field. If it rains, the ceremony will be moved to the school’s gym.

“It’s a big group of kids,” CHS Principal Steve Dunham said. “There’s a lot of high achievers. They’ll go on to represent us well.”

Bray-Doyle High School will host its commencement ceremony at 8 p.m. May 18 on the football field. If it rains, the program will be moved to the school’s gym.

Empire High ceremony is also slated for 8 p.m. May 18 in the school’s cafetorium.

Central High, Bray-Doyle and Empire all present awards and scholarships during the graduation ceremonies.

    Braught was named Friday as the 2013 recipient of the Crossman Award, which is similar to a valedictorian award. The Crossman Award is the Duncan High School’s top student award. The award was presented during the awards assembly.
