DUNCAN —
The Duncan Board of Education is set to hear four presentations at the beginning of tonight’s regular meeting.
The presentations range from ACT scores to the addition of a new early childhood program. Whenever a presentation is made to the school board, there is an intent to better inform school board members of developments within the school district and what learning is taking place.
The first presentation will be by the Duncan Middle School. Each month, the school board selects a school to showcase what its students have been working on.
Jeff Gregston is set to make a presentation about partnering with Duncan Public Schools to add an early childhood program to the new assisted living.
Duncan High School Principal Gary Reed will discuss ACT scores with the school board members. Reed will talk about how DHS students faired when it came to taking the college-readiness test.
The fourth and final presentation will be by Allison Lovett, district curriculum director. Lovett will discuss the GearUp program, which works to increase college-readiness at the high school level.
Through the GearUp program, the school district has introduced several things aimed at enhancing the preparation for college, including the Freshman Focus orientation, which helped students consider college following high school.
Other items:
The school board will consider using at-risk construction management as a project delivery method for the high school renovation and construction project.
Previously, the school board was given three options, but at-risk construction management was recommended.
The district may enter into a contract with Work Adjustment Training for Duncan students.
The school board could accept two employee resignations and hire 39 people for various support personnel positions.
The two resignations are for Angela Barakat, Duncan Middle School cafeteria cashier and helper with one year of service, and Cynthia Peters, maintenance clerk, who is retiring with 24 1/2 years of service. The resignation for Peters won’t go into effect until Dec. 12.
