DUNCAN — During the last meeting of the Duncan Board of Education before the beginning of the school year, the board entered into an executive session to discuss hiring and resignations.
Tuesday’s 1 1/2-hour executive session filled many open positions in Duncan Public Schools. It also gave school board members an opportunity to review submitted resignations.
Superintendent Sherry Labyer said she was excited about all the teachers and support staff the school district hired, but was sad about the seven resignations the board had to approve.
“We wish these former employees, pending on approval by the board, well,” Labyer said. “Those retiring will be sorely missed. Those who are going elsewhere will be missed.”
Those who resigned include Kathy Taylor as Duncan High School special education teacher assistant with 19 years of service, Jamie Jackson as Irving Pre-kindergarten teacher assistant, Janice Hughes as DHS cafeteria helper with eight years of service, Barbara Kirkland retiring as athletic office financial clerk with 30 years of service, Courtney Chapman as Emerson teacher assistant with two years of service, Rose Gatliff as DHS baker and Victor Morgan as Duncan Middle School as a teacher.
