Filings for school board positions received

DUNCAN — Wednesday was the last day to file for countywide school board positions. No new candidates filed Wednesday.

  1.  Eric Davis filed for an open seat on the Duncan Board of Education.
  2.  Garland Davis filed for an open seat on the Comanche Board of Education.
  3.  Brad Boles and Julie Sanders have both filed for the open No. 3 position on the Marlow Board of Education, which is currently held by Robert Greer. Greer has not filed for reelection.
  4.  Bobby Southerland filed for an open seat on the Velma-Alma Board of Education.
  5.  Jarrel Swanson filed for the open seat on the Empire Board of Education, which is currently held by Angela Wolfe.
  6.  Larry L. Sallee Jr. filed for the open seat on the Central High Board of Education.
  7.  Karl Shackelford filed for the open seat on the Bray-Doyle Board of Education.
  8.  Sandy Bowden filed for the open seat on the Grandview Board of Education.
  9.  Rodney Love filed for the open seat on the Red River Technology Center Board of Education.

To the seats that there are not more than one applicant, the seat will automatically be given to the applicant at the end of the current term. For the seats that have more than one applicant, an election will be held to determine the successor.

    There can be only one. And from 222 Duncan High School seniors and five nominees, Jack Braught was that one.
    Braught was named Friday as the 2013 recipient of the Crossman Award, which is similar to a valedictorian award. The Crossman Award is the Duncan High School’s top student award. The award was presented during the awards assembly.

  • Cameron University School of Business Building to be named Cynthia S. Ross Hall

    The Cameron University School of Business Building will be re-named Cynthia S. Ross Hall, following approval Friday,  by the University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents. Regent Richard R. Dunning, Chairman, requested the name change in recognition of the extraordinary contributions made by Cameron President Cindy Ross over the past  11 years.

    Area graduations begin today with Bray-Doyle's Class of 2013 seniors, who will have commencement at 8 p.m. Also, Cameron University students will graduate at 7:30 and the commencement ceremony will be available via live stream on the Internet.
