DUNCAN — Someone has stolen the script and music for the 46th annual show to be presented by the Lawton-Duncan Barbershop Chorus, Southwest Pride.
Hmmmm. Could it be a well-known TV talk-show host?
The lighthearted mystery “Harmony Whodunit” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 6 in the Simmons Center Theatre, and at 7:30 p.m. March 7 in McMahon Memorial Auditorium in Lawton.
Hint: One of the parody songs to be presented is “That’s A-Maury,” said Bobby Richardson of Duncan, who performs in the annual shows each year.
The shows are known for their parodies of well-known songs and for the corny jokes that fill each production and keep the audiences laughing, and this year will be no different.
Other tunes will include “In My Room,” “Happy Days Are Here Again” and “Somebody Stole My Gal (stole the show).”
Along with Southwest Pride, the shows will feature the Vocal Orchestration Corporation — the 1981 Southwest District Men’s Quartet champions — and the Chairmen of the Chord from Lawton.
Each year, Southwest Pride has made donations to local and national charities from the proceeds of the event. This year, donations will go to Chisholm Trail Hospice and the Prairie House Foundation.
In addition, with the downturn in the national economy, the organization wants to help make sure needy people in Duncan and Lawton have enough to eat. With that in mind, the barbershoppers are asking people who attend one of the shows to take at least one can of food — or more! — with them. In Duncan, the canned goods will go to Christians Concerned.
The Lawton Food Bank will be the recipient at the second show.
“We know the needs are increasing, and we want to do what we can to help the communities,” Richardson said.
Tickets are available from any chorus member or from all R&S; Health Mart Pharmacies and Pewter Showplace in Duncan, and from Sheridan Road Veterinary Clinic and Scott’s House of Flowers in Lawton. For information, call 580-255-3179.
