Comanche City Manager Tom Arnold resigns

COMANCHE — During a special meeting of the Comanche City Council Monday evening, City Manager Tom Arnold tendered his resignation, effective immediately.

The meeting Monday evening in the City Council Chambers was held to do a performance review of Arnold, City Clerk Cheryl Johnson said.

Following Arnold’s resignation, Johnson added “acting city manager” to her title. She had held the acting city manager title previously, and assumed the duties following the resignation of Arnold, who held the job since being appointed in May.

“He put forth his resignation before the council Monday evening,” Johnson said.

Before tackling the position of city manager, Arnold served as a police officer for several years ,as well as a firefighter and a sheriff’s deputy.

Arnold was one of 32 applicants for the job following the announcement of former City Manager Brant Ball’s retirement earlier in 2011. Ball had served for seven years in the position.

Before Arnold was selected , members of the council and Mayor Debbie Hancock considered many options in narrowing the field of applicants, including working with a consulting firm.

The city council members will in charge of looking for a replacement for Arnold, and Johnson said she has received no indication on how the council will proceed in the search.

The agenda for the special meeting was posted on Aug. 25 at 11:30 a.m. while Arnold was out of the office on training during the week.
