DUNCAN — Shorter — 60

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Shorter of Duncan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family members on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, in the home of their daughter.

Shorter and the former Betty Callaway were married Sept. 21, 1949, in Banner Assembly of God Church in Duncan with the Rev. M.W. Wertko officiating.

The Shorters have lived in Duncan all of their married life. At the present time, Betty resides at Wilkins Nursing Center because of Alzheimer’s disease. Her husband faithfully goes and sees her daily. Their love and devotion to each other is a Godly example to their children and all who know them.

Shorter was self-employed as a carpenter-contractor until his retirement in 1984. He has served as a deacon at Banner and Bethel Assembly of God churches. He enjoys woodcrafts, auctions and singing at Wilkins Nursing Center.

Mrs. Shorter was a homemaker and caregiver. She loved family gatherings, especially cooking for them.

Both enjoy singing and attending gospel concerts and are members of Bethel Assembly of God.

The Shorters have a daughter and son-in-law, Ruthie and Terry Chasteen, and a son, Mike Shorter, all of Duncan. Their grandchildren are Eric Chasteen and his wife, Brigett, of Waurika Lake; Chad Chasteen and Caleb Shorter, both of Duncan; and Kraig Shorter and his wife, Kayla, of Albuquerque, N.M. They have three great-grandchildren: Bodie, Zach and Lindsey Lane; and two great-great-grandchildren: Ty and Macy Lane.
