Schumacher — 60

Louie and Marvene Schumacher celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 10.

They were introduced to each other by Marvene’s friends on a blind date. After dating for almost a year, they were married on June 10, 1949, by Rev. Virgil Trout in Waurika.

Louie was raised in Tulsa and worked for Skelly Oil Company. He was sent to Velma for a two week assignment to survey the gathering system for the LPG plant being built in Velma. He also worked for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville as a piping design draftsman. They then returned to Duncan where Louie worked at the Sunray D-X Refinery and then for Halliburton as a draftsman in the special services department retiring in 1992.

Marvene worked as a COE student for Halliburton while attending high school. After graduating from Duncan High School, she remained at Halliburton as a keypunch operator/verifier in the data process department.

She rose through the ranks to become a supervisor and maintained the computer library for the department. She transferred to the purchasing department for her last five years at Halliburton, retiring in December 1991 with 40 years of service. Marvene sang in the choir at First Christian Church for many years where they have both been members for more than 50 years.

They have two daughters and their families, Suellen McAllister with son Dr. Joshua McAllister, wife Erin and daughter Kaitlyn of Dallas, Texas; daughter Jessica McLain and husband Chris of Norman, Melissa Ingraham and husband Jimmy, and their son Tyler and daughter Holly, all of Oklahoma City.
