DUNCAN — Bill and Carma Nelson will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a trip to Eureka Springs, Ark., a gift from their children Paula McElra and Billy Nelson.

Bill Nelson and Carma Lambert were married Sept. 12, 1952, in the church parsonage officiated by Orin Utley, minister of Westside Church of Christ.

Throughout their marriage, the couple has resided in Duncan. Bill worked for Halliburton for 34 years until 1986 and for Continental Drive-A-Way for 15 years until he retired in 2002. Carma worked for Universal Fidelity Life Insurance Co. for 27.5 years until she retired in 1996.

They are members of Eastside Church of Christ and enjoy gospel music. Bill enjoys going to car shows and Carma enjoys baking cookies for friends and relatives.

Their children are daughter Paula McElroy and husband Paul, and son Billy Nelson and wife Cheryl. The have five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Betty graduated from Duncan High School in 1945, as did their four children: Steve in 1967 (University of Oklahoma in 1972), John in 1969 (Oklahoma State University in 1974), Missy in 1971 (OU in 1975) and J.D. “Butch” in 1975 (OU in 1979).

    Rev. Bill Choate and Jean Rogers of Meridian celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 1 by attending the First Baptist Church. The couple regularly attends Wednesday services and because their anniversary landed on that day, they didn’t break tradition.

    Anna Reese and William Russell Young of Duncan celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Feb. 17.

    Anna Reese Bostain and William Russell Young were married Feb. 17, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Ross officiated by W. Ralph Wharton, Church of Christ minister.
