DUNCAN — John and Ellen Ensminger celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 24, 2010.

John was born in the Duncan area, and Ellen was born in the little town of Lawrence. Their families both settled in Wewoka., where they both graduated (John in 1947 and Ellen in 1949).

Shortly after high school, John was enlisted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. They were married Dec. 24, 1950, in Wewoka.

After various jobs, John went to work for the U.S. Government in the soil conservation area and was transferred to the Duncan area in February 1974. He retired after 33 years of service in April 1993.

Ellen worked as a seamstress in Wewoka and at AOA in Marlow unit 1987, when she retired. She started her full-time job as a home maker.

They still live in the Duncan area and enjoy the life that they share with family and friends.

They have two children: Darrell Ensminger of Duncan, and Debra Matlock of Anadarko; two grandchildren: Deetra Leynch of Anadarko, and Jeremy Matlock of Fredericksburg, Va.; two great-grandchildren: Tyler (14 years) of Anadarko, and Joshua (2 years) of Fredericksburg.

Betty graduated from Duncan High School in 1945, as did their four children: Steve in 1967 (University of Oklahoma in 1972), John in 1969 (Oklahoma State University in 1974), Missy in 1971 (OU in 1975) and J.D. “Butch” in 1975 (OU in 1979).

  • Mr. and Mrs. Rev. Bill Choate Choate 65 years

    Rev. Bill Choate and Jean Rogers of Meridian celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 1 by attending the First Baptist Church. The couple regularly attends Wednesday services and because their anniversary landed on that day, they didn’t break tradition.

    Anna Reese and William Russell Young of Duncan celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Feb. 17.

    Anna Reese Bostain and William Russell Young were married Feb. 17, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Ross officiated by W. Ralph Wharton, Church of Christ minister.

    David Patterson and Della Roden were married Jan. 28, 1963 in Duncan.
