DUNCAN — Powers — 60
James “Homer” Powers and Maudie “Nancy” Hynson Powers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 12, 2009.
They met in January of 1949 while both were employed by Halliburton Services in Duncan. They married Aug. 12, 1949, in the home of John Nissen in Del City.
They lived in the Oklahoma City area until returning to the Comanche area in 1951. Powers was then employed by Sunray Oil Co. and continued there for 32 years until retiring in 1983. Nancy delivered The Duncan Banner from 1970 until 2000. For anyone living in Comanche during those years who subscribed to The Banner, chances are that she delivered it. The couple also ran Whites Auto in Comanche from 1970 to 1976.
Their children are Jim Powers, Sammie Rice, Rayma Powers and Steve Powers. They have 10 grandchildren: Josh Cowan, Kristie Greenway, Angie Gibbons, Heather Miller, Shellee Graham, Natalie Hillhouse, Jamie Powers, Stephanie Rice, Brandi Gardenhire and Morgan Powers; and 17 great-grandchildren: Dalton Balentine, Tallyn Greenway, Isaac Powers, Dakota and Dawson Gibbons, Christian Miller, Ace Shell, Bailey Powers, Hannah Miller, Sarah Graham and Tenzen Cowan.
