Summer horticulture programs to begin

DUNCAN — Home owners have found this year to date very different from past springs. So many ornamental as well as garden plants have in many cases been much slower to perform as expected, with the warmer weather approaching many of our plants that we feel are behind will soon catch up with what we call normal. There are several issues that are still on the forefront of many homeowners thoughts, one of those issues happens to be, pecan trees in the back yard. An afternoon program dealing with pecan trees in the yard program will be held on Wednesday June 9th, 1p.m. at the Stephens County Fair and Expo Center, we will cover some of the basics, as far as, what insects and diseases we should be looking for, as well as, fertility issues. I will also discuss varieties, spacing and pruning of trees.

The following week on June 15 at 10 a.m. at the Stephens County Fair and Expo Center I will have a program over mid-summer garden issues. Insects that are or will become problems will be covered, as well as, fertility in the garden. In addition, plant diseases and cultural methods to help reduce these problems will be discussed. These programs are open to anyone, and will last approximately 1 hour depending on questions, if you need further information feel free to contact the Stephens County OSU Extension Office at 580-255-0510.
