Managing sandburs and weeds

DUNCAN — One problem that many landowners have struggled with for several years has been in controlling sandburs that have established themselves within pastures. There has not been an effective way to control this plant. One of the new products called Pastora, now has been labeled for use in Bermuda grass pastures.

The Stephens County OSU Extension office will hold a program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stephens County Fair and Expo Conference Center, to familiarize producers on timing applications and usage of this product. Dupont representatives will be on hand to present information on this subject.

In addition, for those that have not made pasture herbicide applications, Mark Gregory OSU Area Agronomist will discuss weed control in pastures and remind producers about current control products that are effective. In addition we will discuss control of brushy type weeds such as wild blackberry and others. A hamburger meal will be provided, call the OSU Extension Office at 580-255-0510 for the meal count.

For any questions or further information please contact Max Gallaway at 580-255-0510 or max.gallaway@okstate.edu.

  • Max Gallaway Summer horticulture programs to begin

Home owners have found this year to date very different from past springs. So many ornamental as well as garden plants have in many cases been much slower to perform as expected, with the warmer weather approaching many of our plants that we feel are behind will soon catch up with what we call normal.
